What is an i manager? Interview with Ai Nakamura, Latter part

Hello everyone, this is Miyazawa from iU Blog! This is the second part of our interview project with iManager, the second part of our interview with Ms. Ai Nakamura.

The first part is here → https://blog.i-u.ac.jp/?p=202

The first part of the second interview is here → https://blog.i-u.ac.jp/?p=592

The second part of the interview is more in-depth than the first part, asking about the challenges of iU, so please check it out.

6 What do you think are the current challenges for iU?

As a school that has just started, we have many issues to address, but I think one of them is the lack of recognition. One of them is the lack of recognition of iU. The understanding of professional universities is still not very widespread, and the recognition of iU is also still low. Therefore, I would like more people to know about iU.

One of the challenges we face in the iU is that the environment is not yet ready, and the activities of iU students are one of the ways to raise awareness.
In addition, another challenge is to avoid becoming an ordinary university. iU would like to create a university together with students, so we would like to listen to students’ voices as much as possible while maintaining the rules and regulations of a university and making it possible to do various things. In order to do this, I think it is important to get to the bottom of what makes iU unique.

7 If you could take any class, which class would you take?

I would like to take the Innovation Project. I wanted to take this class because I saw that the students seemed to be enjoying it the most. I think it will be fun to see the ideas take shape through the various subjects, coming up with ideas to solve problems, and actually thinking of a business plan. It’s difficult, but it’s also nice to have a dream.

8 What do you like about iU?

I like the fact that there are so many students who enjoy responding to change and continue to advance even in the face of the Corona disaster.
I also like the fact that students are taking on various challenges and creating iU together with faculty and staff, despite the difficulties of a newly established university.
At iU, the distance between students and faculty is close and the atmosphere is flat, so I think it’s great that we can talk without hesitation. Of course, etiquette and manners are important in this atmosphere.

9 What kind of activities do you expect from iU students in the future?

I hope that they will continue to create new services, and that when something new is announced to the world, iU students will definitely be involved. I also hope that they will be able to use the skills they have acquired through their studies at the professional university and become active immediately.
I want them to become people who will change the world for the better.

10 If you were to create a new department, what kind of department would you like to create?

The current curriculum at iU is focused on business, and ICT and global communication are necessary knowledge and skills to advance business. I think it would be better to have a department that focuses on global communication for those who want to do business overseas, or a department that aims to train ICT engineers to become members of entrepreneurial teams, so that they can be more active in society. I think it would be great to have a variety of courses, such as courses that aim to help students become immediately active in companies and courses that aim to help students become entrepreneurs.

In closing

How was the first and second part of the interview with the iManager? I hope I was able to convey the thoughts and feelings of the i-managers, which is not easy to convey. It was also a great opportunity for me to hear things that I wouldn’t normally hear in an interview. Thank you very much, Ms. Ai Nakamura!
